I met a very unprofessional sales agent at this dealership. We went for a test drive, guess what was his first question? He asked us if we are buying the vehicle TODAY. Next, he asked 3 pieces of p dealership. We went for a test drive, guess what was his first question? He asked us if we are buying the vehicle TODAY. Next, he asked 3 pieces of photo IDs (including a credit card w/photo) in order to give us a Highlander for a test drive. When we asked the reason for this, he said this was because someone stole a car recently, implying they don’t trust people who come for test drive. More

What can I say, a car dealer is a car dealer. I don't know why they rap on used car salesemen, in my limited experience new car salesemen are just as bad. Or maybe I just got unlucky with the salesman th know why they rap on used car salesemen, in my limited experience new car salesemen are just as bad. Or maybe I just got unlucky with the salesman this time. I only buy a new car about once every ten years. I came in with what should have been a quick and easy deal. They had exactly the car I wanted in the showroom already, and I was willing to buy it immediately. Instead of a 15-minute transaction it took hours (literally, hours) of me waiting for the salesman to go "talk to the manager" (does anyone really still fall for that?) In the end I got the car for a reasonable price, but it will take me a while to forget all that unnecessary stress. The plates were supposed to be transferred from my old car. Easy, right? Oh no. I had to rush to the dealer the day before pickup with 10 minutes notice to give them the old plates. I can only assume that transferring existing plates is extra work for the salesman, so he "strongly encouraged" me to get new ones. And he gave me some lie about how "it costs you more" to keep the old plates. Because the financing person (who overall did a pretty good job) wasn't sure about the minimum financing amount I was supposed to be told what amount I'm supposed to write on the draft, but do you think anyone told me? No, I had to call and leave a message to find out. She sent the amount to the salesman, but he didn't think it important to call and let me know. When I came to pick up the car I got this interesting question: "you brought a void cheque, right?". Yes I did. Lucky that I already knew that I need to bring one and didn't need to be told in advance. I asked if I will get copies of every paper that I signed on pickup. The salesman told me yes. 5 minutes later he was handing me a stack of paper about half the size of what I signed, and no explanation of where everything else was. I was too sick of trying to talk sensibly with this jerk, so I didn't even bother insisting. Newer Toyotas come with this thing called "Connected Services". For privacy-conscious people that is a nightmare. Luckily Toyota does not (and by Ontario law - can not) require that you consent to all that data collection. But in this dealership the Connected Services agreement comes with the "I consent" box pre-checked. When I said I don't intend to have those services enabled I got another lie: "you cannot pick up the car unless you agree to it". Another (I lost count) trip to the manager and it turned out that in fact I am not required to volunteer give up my privacy when I buy a Toyota vehicle. My time is valuable, and I especially hate when people treat me like I was born yesterday. The "delivery specialist" dude I dealt with in the end was great. Polite, honest, and respectful of my time. The financing person and receptionists were great too. Unfortunately I wasted so much time and mental stamina with the salesman that I can't make myself click the 3-star "average" rating, even though I suspect my experience would have been very similar in another dealership.
