Mandatory “options” and bullying.
Sales person and sales director were all friendly and I ordered a car I waited over a year for. It’s a fully loaded car and in the actual context of high demand and low inventory, I expected to pay msrp without any discount.
When the time comes to sign the contract, just before the car arrive at the dealership, I see that there already are options: VWPP antitheft, winter carpets and locknuts.
The locknuts are already included as standard equipment so I have them remove it, they say it’s a mistake but I read in VW pages that it’s common practice at certain VW dealers to “try”.
At this point, the sales director was involved as my salesperson said he couldn’t do anything about this.
I told them politely that I didn’t want their antitheft engraving for 300$ and their winter carpets as I wanted weathertech ones and they would not remove those. I insisted I had no intention to pay extra fees, already paying full msrp on the car with the most expensive package.
The sales director, seeing I was mad told me I didn’t have to buy the car if I wasn’t happy with their terms. This practice is not only unethical, it’s illegal in Quebec. He said “sue me!”.
I waited over a year for this car. Not taking it would punish me more than him as he will sell it to the next person in line.
In the end, I upgraded to their other versions of the carpets that are made by weathertech and he credited the other ones but I’m still paying 300$ over msrp for an option I don’t need.
If you don’t mind paying extra fees and being bullied, buy you next car at VW Des Sources. They are friendly, until they are not.
