Purchase of 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie I just purchased a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie from Great West Chrysler in Edmonton. I would say that my experience covered the entire range from outs I just purchased a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie from Great West Chrysler in Edmonton. I would say that my experience covered the entire range from outstanding to my worst fears of dealing with car/truck dealerships. First the outstanding. The person I dealt with is Shawn Shute, and he was fantastic. He really does try to match customers with the right vehicle for them. His approach is enthusiastic, without being pushy or rushed. He takes the time needed to make certain you are getting the vehicle you want and need. He is extremely knowledgeable about the vehicles and excellent at explaining their features in a clear, understandable, no-nonsense fashion. He is very personable and excels at understanding the personality of the customer and modulating his approach for optimized communication. Dealing with Shan was the best vehicle-purchasing experience I have ever had. If you deal with Great West Chrysler, be certain to ask to see Shawn. You wont regret it. Now for the bad. The dealership had a representative from Chrysler visiting who, it was explained to me, had the ability to bring company money to the table to sweeten a deal. Sean and I worked out the vehicle and options that were right for me, and then I was introduced to John, the Chrysler rep. He handled the money end of things and made the offer. I was amazed at how good the offer was. We shook hands on it, and John said that the price he was able to offer was below cost. As I learned afterwards, the deal was worked out between John and one of the sales managers from Great West. Apparently, the sales manager took his numbers from the 2017 data sheet instead of the 2018, and gave me a better deal than he had intended or, apparently, was able to offer. By the next morning, he realized his mistake, and made the unfortunate decision to call me and tell me they could not honour the deal they had offered me the night before. He then tried to get me to come up with significantly more money than the price I had been offered and shook on. I went nuts, said things that I probably should not have said and told him that if they did not honour the price they had offered, I would not buy that vehicle or any other from them. Ever. In the end, the dealership did honour the deal, apologized for the most unfortunate call, and I ended up with a fantastic deal on a great Ram truck. However, the dealership lost my trust because of that phone call, and they will have to prove over time that my experience was an aberration and not the way they normally do business. So, the take home is that I really enjoyed working with Shawn and would do so agin in a heartbeat. I think he is an honest, highly competent salesman, and a thoroughly decent person. The dealership, on the other hand, managed to confirm my worst fears about car dealerships. They have a long way to go to regain my trust. hence the average rating I have provided. More
