I have to share an experience with you all. My son, bless his heart had a moment where his brain left his body. He had been told he needed to “top up the oil” on his 2022 Jetta GLI, instead of adding a quart, he added 6. Yes, he overfilled the oil. He realized his mistake immediately, once he turned on the vehicle. He did not drive it, as the check engine light came on and the vehicle had smoke coming from the exhaust. He was in the parking lot of Canadian Tire where he had bought the oil. He called seeking help, we advised him to get the car into a service bay there and have them drain the oil. This was done, the vehicle moved approximately 50 feet with too much oil in it. Canadian Tire advised him, its still smoking maybe let the oil burn off. The check engine light was still on, so we were concerned. Across Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge from the Canadian Tire is the Volkswagen dealership, we thought, best have a brand specific mechanic take a look at it. We took the vehicle, now overfill drained, fresh oil across the street to the dealership. This was Tuesday August 5th. Left the vehicle at the dealership as service was closed for the day. The next day, no help, was told we didn’t have an appointment so not a priority, understood. I ask about a loaner car, they say the service light is not flashing you can safely drive the car if needed. The day after that, Thursday, in the afternoon they start to look at vehicle. There was no further update on Thursday. Friday morning no call, I call and leave a message, and send an email. Then at 1pm Friday I receive a text message from them recommending additional service. The recommendation was “Cylinder Block Assembly – Engine – Connecting Rod: disassemble engine to inspect. – QUOTE - $23,237.87. The check engine was not flashing, the dealership told us it was safe to drive, but then quotes $20K+ for repairs? I wanted a second opinion, so on Monday August 11, I went to Maple Ridge Volkswagen, paid in full for the diagnostic work and advised I would have a tow truck come to pick up the vehicle the next morning. I confirmed the name of the towing company and was told by the team at the service counter, no problem. I contacted a mechanic who we have used in the past, he made the arrangements for a tow company come to pick up the vehicle and bring it to him. On Tuesday when the tow truck tried to retrieve the vehicle, the VW dealership would not release the car stating it was not paid for. This was not the case. The tow truck driver wasted over an hour of time arguing with the VW dealer to get the vehicle released until a staff member finally said oh yeah that is paid its good to go. We were charged extra for the wait time. The Jetta was taken to this mechanic who inspected it, cleaned the airbox, PCU, intercooler/intake tubes, replaced filters, reset service and check engine light. Advised that he could not find any damage, yes there was some oil overrun, but it was now cleaned and flushed out. He believes that a couple of good drives and the little remaining smoke will clear. Total cost, which included a $160 tow from our mechanic $946.40. Wednesday my son drives this vehicle to work, approximately 20km, no issues, no smoke no lights no problem. Now two months later of daily driving an no issues, no leaks, no lights or concerns. I have to ask, why would Maple Ridge Volkswagen quote repairs at such an excessively high amount? Where they just trying to take advantage of someone in a bad situation? What was the intention here? After contacting the dealership (General and Service Managers) and VW Canada the Service manager reached out to me. His explanation was that they were busy and this was simply a lack of communication. I am not sure how what we went through could be considered simply a lack of communication? To me they either were hoping I would blindly accept the $20K quote or say scrap the car we cant afford that and then clean it up and sell it More

I can’t say enough good things about the service department at Maple Ridge Volkswagen. Specifically their Senior Service Advisor “Doug DaCosta” is outstanding at his job. I bought my 2012 Passat department at Maple Ridge Volkswagen. Specifically their Senior Service Advisor “Doug DaCosta” is outstanding at his job. I bought my 2012 Passat TDI from this dealership and have been servicing my vehicle there the whole time. Doug has always been very easy to talk to, relatable, very understanding and very knowledgeable. He really makes an extra effort not only for me but for all his clients. Over the years I have had to stop in a number of times without an appointment for things that are necessary but minor. In my mind I know it is a lot to ask but I am hoping that I can get in and out as quickly as possible. Doug doesn’t disappoint! For example: I am due for an oil change appointment or have one booked already, but my car is so low on oil that the oil light comes on. I need just a bit of oil to get me to my next appointment so I don’t damage my engine. Doug is there to help with minimal wait! Or a headlight is out and I need to buy the lamp – Doug has helped to quickly install it as well and I am on my way! One other thing I like about VW service is that I can drop off my car and they will arrange to have a lot person drive me home and later pick me up! I love that. Prior to COVID restrictions an added bonus was picking up your repaired car and VW had also washed your car for you! These extra touches have made servicing my vehicle at Maple Ridge Volkswagen a very enjoyable experience and unlike anything I have experienced at another dealership. More

After being shown a pre owned 2018 golf for $21,999, I took the deal. Rob, a manager at the dealership makes everything look pretty by circling some affordable numbers and positive attitude. Fooled me. I’ took the deal. Rob, a manager at the dealership makes everything look pretty by circling some affordable numbers and positive attitude. Fooled me. I’m taken to Kam, who provides me papers to sign, of which he doesn’t review any with me. I’m told they’re just small things like warranties etc and I’m quietly pressured to just sign them asap so Kam can continue. Fooled again. I sign thinking that even if I end up not liking the car, I can return it. Not the case in B.C. and no advising was provided. Those ‘small things’ I was signing were actually adding thousands of dollars to the bill of sale. The total cost of the vehicle ended up coming to $32,000, which I opted to finance. Fooled yet again. I was pushed out that night after a down payment on the car and drove it home because they were closing, without being provided anything I signed for or THE BILL OF SALE. No manual for the car provided despite requesting it from the dealership, Volkswagen Canada told me I’d have to purchase it. Post purchase realize the window wiper cap is missing, rear overhead handle popped out, brakes shakes at high speeds, tires are used and likely will only get half years use out of them. While they fixed 3 of these issues, it was their pre owned “certified” with these issues. Sell now fix later attitude. I went back frustrated to the dealership to see if I can back out of what has been a nightmare of a purchase. Adam Walker their finance manager says the contract and bill is sale must have left mistakenly by ME. Informs me there is no walking out of this, says “we’ve already been paid I’m sorry” and offers no more help. When I say I’m going to file a complaint and that I’d like to speak to the GM, he snapped and annoyingly said“what would that change”. Please seek independent advice on any car from this dealership and NEVER do same day financing with ANY dealership. They’re just out for your money. P.S Doug in their mechanic department is actually a stand up guy and I would actually recommend their servicing work if it weren’t right next to the dealership. More

I wanted to thank Doug in service for his care and attention. Since my husband died I have had no one that can help me with concerns I have with my car and I have been so lucky to have Doug there to attention. Since my husband died I have had no one that can help me with concerns I have with my car and I have been so lucky to have Doug there to explain and make recommendations. He has helped with several problems that required a looking outside the box to solve. He is very patient when explaining what is needed and the costs. Thanks Doug for giving me someone to trust More
