Dear Raising Awareness, We’d like to start by apologizing once again for your experience at Focus Hyundai. We pride ourselves on doing everything we can to give our customers a 10 out of 10 experience, and we obviously missed the mark in your case. Due to multiple factors, most under our control where we dropped the ball, and some out of our control that were unfortunate occurrences, we failed to give you an acceptable, let alone excellent, experience. This is absolutely not the norm for Focus Hyundai. In your particular case, we unquestionably made some mistakes and have taken necessary steps in order to prevent them from happening again. To be more specific, we should never have shown the vehicle you were interested in without first addressing the cracked windshield. Even though the vehicle passed Safety, the windshield should have been replaced before it was even listed for sale. However, due to multiple miscommunications between our Managers, it did not get done. I understand that you still wanted to purchase the vehicle after we replaced the windshield, and also wanted some scratches buffed out from the vehicle, which should also have been done before your viewing, so that you didn’t have to ask. Our in-house professional detailer/polisher was on vacation for the week, and we didn’t want to take any chances of one of our less experienced people doing a sub-par job, so we contracted a professional and very highly regarded polishing company to perform the work for us. Unfortunately, while working on the vehicle, they had a very rare oversight, and applied too much pressure, damaging the paint. The only solution was to repaint the entire passenger side of the vehicle, which we rushed into the Bodyshop to have performed immediately. This was the unfortunate cause of delay in getting the vehicle delivered to you on-time. Once we had the vehicle reconditioned to nearly-new condition, on the day of your delivery, you noticed two very small cracks on the bottom edge of the black plastic trim at the bottom edge of the front bumper. While these cracks were there from when we took the trade from the previous owner, we shouldn’t have assumed you were aware of them from your previous test drives and inspections, and it seems that this is where we failed to meet your expectations of what the purchase of a Used car should be. Given the already deeply discounted price, and additional paint reconditioning we’d performed to try to exceed your expectations, we could not commit to your request of replacing the entire bumper. Understanding that you would not purchase the vehicle without the bumper being replaced, and our final offer of covering your next oil change not being accepted, we understood your request, and refunded your deposit. We certainly understand and acknowledge the fact that your experience was not to our standard, but the biggest failure on our behalf is the fact that you left feeling deceived. We pride ourselves on being completely transparent in dealings with our customers, and we’re very sorry we missed the mark. As we’d mentioned, many of the issues fell on us, and some were out of our control, but feel we were open and honest about why there were delays throughout the entire process, while we tried and failed to meet your expectations. Once it was decided that you were not going through with the purchase, we re-listed our vehicle online at what was deemed fair market value by our market analysis program. If there are ever any questions about the value or pricing of our vehicles, we will gladly show customers how we arrive at our listed prices. Again, we can’t apologize enough for our failures on your overall experience. We’ve reviewed our internal processes, including some staffing changes, to ensure an experience like this does not happen again. Sincerely, - The Focus Hyundai Team.
