Capital GMC Buick Cadillac responded

Hello, My name is Colin Konanz and I am the Director of Fixed Operations (Service & Parts) at Capital GMC. I would like to start by thanking you for your business and also for your patience in working with us through some of the things we encountered with a few of the aftermarket accessories on your new Sierra. I also appreciate your taking the time to voice your concerns about your experience. Although we do make some mistakes and sometimes things don’t always go as smoothly as we hope, I do think we have an exceptional service department and our technicians do a really good job of helping us take care of our customer’s vehicles. With vehicle accessories, we always prefer to use the Genuine GM parts as GM does an excellent job of designing their accessories to perfectly fit the vehicles they are designed to go onto. We also deal with hundreds of manufacturers that supply aftermarket parts and accessories and although most of them do work quite well, there is the occasional one that has issues with fitment etc. and we always do our best to make sure that they are installed properly, safely, aesthetically sound and with good workmanship. The plastic bed rail caps that come standard on the 3500 Sierra have molded blanks over top of the box’s stake pockets. These blanks are grooved and designed to come out to facilitate the use of the stake pockets that they cover. The GM factory box rails have a base plate designed to completely cover this opening, but the aftermarket ones that were chosen didn’t quite cover these openings. We double checked the part numbers of those rails with what was installed on your truck and the manufacturer of those rails sells them specifically to work with the truck you have. Due to the factory bed rail protectors, the bolts that came with those parts weren’t long enough to bite correctly either so it does appear that although that these pipes are advertised as directly compatible with the 3500 Sierra, the bed rail caps are standard on that model and clearly these rails didn’t just work well with them. Your decision to keep the rails, have plates made for underneath and use longer bolts to mount them have made them useable for you and seem like a good solution. I also checked and it does appear that the correct aftermarket mud flaps were installed, but that they came with a different stainless lower plate than the catalogue shows on that part and that were ordered. We did have a different set in stock that we were able to swap those plates out with so I do understand that they are correct now and what you had expected. Again, when dealing with aftermarket suppliers on such things, sometimes there are slight differences in what shows up to what is seen in catalogues etc. When the parts come in we always double check to ensure the part numbers match to what was quoted. In this case, the part number that we picked, ordered, received and installed on your truck was all consistent across the board. It is unfortunate that the undercoating is peeling out from the rear wheel wells. Sometimes this can happen if the product doesn’t have suitable time to cure before it is used on the road. The undercoating product is good, but it does remain fairly pliable even when dry and if not fully cured before going out on the road to winter and water and debris that comes off the road. If you would be interested, we just started offering the service of spraying Extreme Rhino Liner in truck wheel wells. This product is way tougher, way more durable and will last the life of the truck I am sure. We will offer to remove the undercoating from the wheel wells and spray with Extreme Rhino at no cost to you. Please just contact me directly and I can arrange that for you. Again, I do believe that we have the best trained, most experienced and capable technician group in the nation. We take pride in what we do and have very few quality of workmanship issues. We do service about 130 cars a day and we do make some mistakes, but as a percentage of the work we do, it is very rare that we have a workmanship concern. The concerns that you had, besides the minor overspray on the side pipes, were all aftermarket product concerns and not quality of workmanship issues. I do urge you to feel free to use our Service Department for any maintenance or repairs that may be necessary as there is no better equipped facility to service it. Given the few concerns that we had with those products, and as a sign of appreciation for your patience with them, we had agreed to absorb the remainder of the cost for the grill and the offer does stand to have the Extreme Rhino installed on your fenders. I regret your first experience with us wasn’t smoother. I appreciate your business and your understanding. Please feel free to contact me directly if there is anything else that I can assist you with. Sincerely, Colin Konanz Director of Fixed Operations 761-6626 colink@capitalgmc.ca
