While all dealerships are more expensive than generic service garages, the overall quality of work and parts is far better. There are some things which the "shade tree mechanic" at home may be able to do service garages, the overall quality of work and parts is far better. There are some things which the "shade tree mechanic" at home may be able to do himself, but with most modern vehicles, the major items are best left to the ones who know those vehicles best.
