I recently took my 2022 Chevrolet Equinox RS in for an oil change and to have my cabin air filter changed out. I had attempted to change the cabin filter myself (it is a fairly simple procedure, the cabin oil change and to have my cabin air filter changed out. I had attempted to change the cabin filter myself (it is a fairly simple procedure, the cabin air filter is located behind the glove compartment and is easily accessed except for the two 5.5 mm screws that have to be removed before you can gain access the cabin air filter). I do not have a 5.5 mm socket ( I have a 5.0 mm socket and 6.0 mm socket so I had to have the techincian do it ) I could not remove the nuts to gain access to the cabin air filter, hence I decided to have the dealership tech do it). The technician always removes the engine air filter and cabin air filter (as part of the oil change service) to see if the filters are dirty and need to be changed). I supplied the new cabin air filter. When I asked the service adviser, Josee Larson, to have the technician change the cabin air filter, she stated there would be a $20 to change the cabin air filter. I objected to the $20 charge because the technician had to remove the cabin air filter to check to see if it was dirty and need to be replaced as part of the routine oil change and service procedure. If the cabin filter is not dirty the technician puts the old cabin air filter back in. I had removed the new cabin air filter from the box and placed it on the floor, immediately below the glove compartment. Therefore instead of placing the old cabin air filter back (if the filter doesn't have to be replaced) the technician just places the new cabin air filter in the same slot in the glove compartment (if the cabin filter needs to be replaced). Same amount of labour for both (place old filter that isn't dirty enough to warrant replacement/ or to replace with the new cabin air filter). I objected to the $20 charge to replace the cabin air filter because the technician had to do the same amount of work to check the cabin air filter. Josee Larson continued to insist on the $20 charge to replace cabin air filter. I objected my displeasure to the $20 charge very strongly and she relented and stated that I didn't have to pay the $20 charge this time but would have to pay it in the future. This really TICKED ME OFF!! I have purchased five new vehicles and two used vehicles and had all the serving done at Lakewood over the last 20 years and have never been so annoyed over such a trivial item. It is the principle of the thing!! Such a petty things really PISSES ME OFF!!!. I may consider purchasing my next new vehicle elsewhere if I experience such petty items in the future.
