Able to negotiate Our Honda Fit had just come off warranty when we started to smell gasoline in the cabin of the car. Even though the car was driven to the dealership, Our Honda Fit had just come off warranty when we started to smell gasoline in the cabin of the car. Even though the car was driven to the dealership, we were told that the diagnostics indicated that the coils and spark plugs would need to be replaced at a cost of nearly $1200. A quick check on the internet led us to discover that loose spark plugs were symptomatic of the gas smell inside and the usual cost of remedy was far below that quoted to us by the dealership. Why the loose spark plugs were never noticed over many years of routine servicing, we cannot answer. But we do believe it led to the very expensive repair we were facing. To his credit, Mike Walsh, the service manager, arranged 'good-will' and reduced the bill to $750. We believe he understands that our loyalty, as owners of our 3rd Honda from the same dealership, is important to the business. We will likely remain customers because of this, but we'll also know to question whether the spark plugs get checked at each routine maintenance interval. More
