My daughter, a recent university graduate with a solid job, was excited to buy her first car. She had done her research and knew exactly what she wanted: a specific VW model. This was supposed to be a fun, exciting experience, but Richmond Hill VW turned it into a nightmare. We had already visited another VW dealership and were given a great offer. We even test-drove a few models. My daughter had her heart set on specific colours, but that dealership didn’t have it in stock. However, she found that Richmond Hill VW did, so we decided to see if we could get the same deal there. A "Family Owned" Nightmare: After a 10-minute wait, we were greeted by Christian Wichtler. We were very honest and told him we knew exactly what we wanted and what offer we had received from the other dealership. This was a BIG MISTAKE. As soon as he realized we were there for a specific car he had in stock, his attitude changed completely. He became uncooperative, rude, and unprofessional. He first reluctantly agreed to include floor mats for free but then denied it later. The mats were only about $130, while the car was over $45,000, yet he was trying to be difficult about it and told us if we wanted the mats for free, we had to agree to a lower discount. My daughter became very upset by his attitude, explaining that this was her first car purchase and she didn't want the experience tainted by this kind of behaviour. She told him that we were no longer interested in the car. As we got up to leave, Christian made a comment saying that if we went to another dealership and they asked him for this car, he wouldn’t give it to them. This comment proved we made the right choice by walking away. Meeting the Manager: Before leaving, we asked to speak with a manager, so that they know about the salesperson's poor attitude, and we met Neil Pelling. You would expect any decent manager with a customer service mindset to listen carefully and try to de-escalate the situation, but he did the exact opposite. He interrupted my daughter several times while patronizing and lecturing her, and unconditionally defended his salesperson. He then blamed us for being the source of frustration for his salesperson. I explained that we had only been there for 15-20 minutes and had done all our homework beforehand, but he accused us of being "cheap" for not closing the deal over the $130 floor mats. This showed that he hadn’t even listened to our reason for wanting to speak with him: his salesperson’s attitude. We left the office, realizing there was no value in staying. As we were walking out, Christian was standing at the counter and started mocking my daughter by making a face. When I confronted him, he cowardly backtracked. A Deeper Look: Later, I discovered that Richmond Hill VW is owned by Kirk Wichtler, the same last name as Christian Wichtler. This probably explains why Neil Pelling felt the need to support Christian unconditionally—he works for the Wichtler family, and he didn't want to upset the boss. This is the new meaning of a "family owned" business. Before you go to this dealership, please read the online reviews. They have a very poor reputation for a reason. More
I had a service appointment yesterday for an oil change. VW mechanics/techs disconnected my backup camera. The vw advisor stated that VW Richmond Hill did disconnect the backup camera. But I thought it was necessary and they reconnected the camera. However, when I tried to back up today my camera was not working. I tried to call service several times to no avail. The service manager Moses would not accept responsibility and wanted me to pay an additional $200 for a diagnostic charge. He kept saying that he can't tell the camera was working before I brought in the car when it is VW Richmond Hill is supposed to be doing its due diligence to do a check on the car. the service Manger disconnected the call. This is the 2nd time I had a service problem after my oil change. Last time whoever drove my car broke my gear box and I had to go to another mechanic to fix it. More
No one working in the Richmond Hill Volkswagen dealership is professionals. I am afraid that the technicians do not even know what they are doing. We went there because our car was consuming too much oil and is professionals. I am afraid that the technicians do not even know what they are doing. We went there because our car was consuming too much oil and they made us do several tests which was both time and money consuming. At the end of the day they changed the oil cooler and the car is still consuming too much oil. They do not respect customers to a point where they talk with a bad attitude. After all the things they do not want to assist us because they just cannot do their job properly and cannot even find a solution. They are just wasting people's time and money at this point. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone! More
I recently visited Volkswagen Richmond Hill to address an issue with my car's travel assist system. While the staff were friendly and accommodating, my last visit, which took nearly five hours, did not re an issue with my car's travel assist system. This marked the fourth visit without resolution, and I was asked to return once more. Although I appreciated the friendly staff, the recurring visits and extended wait times left me frustrated. On May 16,2023 I went to VW Richmond Hill for a small repair of a damage caused by me at the driver's side mirror. An attempt was made to repair by changing just the frame but unfortunately the casing repair of a damage caused by me at the driver's side mirror. An attempt was made to repair by changing just the frame but unfortunately the casing was broken. On May 17, 2023 the part order came and by 10:00AM the car was ready to be picked -up. I need to mention that original mirror and the cap were used since there were not damaged. The Service Manager Lauranne Tonghe is a very knowledgeable person which helped and assured that all job went smooth. Communication with her was excellent letting me know how the job progresses. The charges for service were reasonable and explained in detail by Lauranne Tonghe. In the last 7 years I leased and bought and serviced 2 cars at this dealership and the experience was a pleasure dealing with Mr.Nadeem, Lauranne T. and Erick. This dealership can be considered as an example of how the business of buying/leasing and servicing a car should be run. Thanks for your service Mihai Stancu More
