Our salesman Sam was extremely personable, kind, helpful, and made it a breeze. I had a wonderful sales experience with Cody at Guelph Hyundai. He was respectful of our preferences, timeline, and budget. He helped us find our used car and agree on a price we were comfortable with. After I paid my deposit, I had to meet with the business manager, Shari MacQuarrie. This is where the issue began. As a parent of young babies, I went to complete the purchase alone after discussing and agreeing on the terms with my husband. The business manager greeted me with “are you alone” before even introducing herself. She then tried to convince me to finance the vehicle and I explained that I have decided to pay cash and cannot be convinced otherwise. She proceeded to ask “who makes the decisions in your house” and asked for me to come back with my husband. When I told her that only one of us could be there, she asked me if he could come instead. I felt very out of place as a woman buying a car at this dealership because of all these comments. It did not stop there - once she finally accepted that we had made our decision to not finance the car, her attempts to sell a warrantee included trying to convince us that the manufacturer warrantee is shorter than what it actually is (despite the fact that we had done the research and knew the length of the warrantee), telling us that it is likely for us to get into a total wreckage accident, and predicting that our children will poke holes in the seats. Overall, the initially pleasant experience of working with the sales person was highly overshadowed by our interactions with the business manager, who left a sour taste in our mouths. If we had not put down the deposit, I would have walked away from the sale. I will be telling everyone I know to steer clear of this place for this reason. More
