Hi Jacob, I've not heard anything back from you in more than a week, should I still be be expecting some sort of a reply? BTW, I removed Michael David from the review for now, but his threats and attitude were not appreciated. I would much rather update my rating to say that my complaint was followed up and resolved with good customer service, rather than updating my rating to say that's somehow despite dealerrater's assurance that your personal information is not shared with the dealer, that Michael David contacted me personally with intimidation and threats of legal action, instead of even trying to resolve the issue. Sincerely, .James. Jking@look.ca

Downsview Chrysler Ltd responded

Hi Mr. King, I just tried giving you a call but your voicemail is full. I had brought your issue up with our Service Manager (Ed Comsa) and our Vice President and was waiting on word from them on how to move forward. First, I did want to clarify that it was not Ed that you dealt with but rather John DelTatto who is our Shop Foreman. And what both of them explained to me was that the alternator would not have caused your battery to stop working. I'm not a mechanic so I didn't understand this before but I think I understand now, that the problem was the alternator was undercharging the battery and not OVER charging it. If the battery was over charged then you would be 100% correct and we could replace it under warranty. However, because it was undercharging it, and this would not cause this issue, there was nothing we can do for you. I hear you in that you wanted to see us try to submit a warranty claim but the issue is that everything is with computers and when the computer reads an undercharging alternator, Chrysler or any Warranty Company would immediately reject it. I understand the principle of 'if you don't ask you don't get' and sometimes it does work out. However, in this instance, there really is nothing we can do to replace your battery for free. Batteries are not covered under warranty after four years, they will wear out. We do a full comprehensive safety check and quality check on our pre-owned vehicles and we can both agree this issue was not present when we did our checks. This is not a problem with buying a pre-owned car from Downsview, its part of buying a pre-owned vehicile. Minor repairs can be expected on a 4 year old car. With that said, we did replace the alternator for you. We did what we could. Unfortunately we cant do everything you want in this case. I would appreciate if you would update your rating because its not merited. We really did do all we could and I think your review doesn't show that. I understand that no one wants to be in the shop a month after buying a car but, again, we did what we could for you. In regards to Michael David, dealerrater does not share your personal information with us. As you can see we don't normally get bad reviews and I think you can empathize with Michael David for not wanting to be spoken of negatively online. He read the review and then asked around to find out who the complaint could have been from...like I did. I hope you can see that you were incorrect in your tagging of Michael David and 'putting yourself in his shoes' you would be upset as well after having an unwarranted bad review online for two weeks. I also hope that you can understand that your request for a free battery replacement is not justified and not something we can accommodate. Like the alternator, I hope you understand that we would if we could. Really, why wouldn't we? We want all of our customers to be happy and that's whats kept us in business for almost sixty years. Please feel free to call me with any questions about this issue or any other issues.

Hi, The story you have been given is the same one I was given. However it does not account for the fact that a battery doesn't just suddenly die in the shop without without any symptoms, despite working just fine 5 minutes before when I dropped it off and when your service guy started the car to take it from the drop-off area to the shop itself, and somehow simultaneous to having an "unrelated" alternator problem. Anyone acquainted with Automobiles and engines would know that this explanation is unreasonable, and strains credibility to the Limit. My challenge with this issue was less about the $400 I paid for a new battery, despite bringing my car in with a fully functioning battery, and more about the fact that my dealership was unwilling to even submit this issue for consideration to the warranty company, despite telling me that the reason they sold me a third party warranty instead of a factory warranty was the more reasonable claims policy of the third party company. The constant suggestion that the battery issue is independent of the alternator issue ignores the fact that anyone familiar with basic mechanics knows that a malfunctioning alternator will unquestionably draw the battery down, and/or over charge it. To say otherwise is simply silly. In all likelihood I will pull this dealer review and take it down anyways, I don't like the bad karma, but Downsview will not see anymore service or automobile purchase business from me or those who seek my advice. Thanks, James.

Hi, I am not a mechanic, so I have to trust that my mechanics and service managers are giving me the correct information. I hope you can believe its possible that they know more about cars than I do, and maybe you as well. I think everyone knows that a batter (a wearable item) is never covered on warranty after 4 years - whether it's a Chrysler warranty or a third party. It's just not. I understand your argument that it must be at fault because of the Alternator but our mechanics don't agree. The computer that registers codes indicating vehicle malfunctions don't agree either. Unfortunately, when warranty claims are submitted these diagnostics are submitted and it really would be a fools errand to try to get this repair covered under warranty. I hope you can trust that we have the experience in knowing what can get approved under warranty and also, why wouldnt we want to get it covered under warranty? If we could have someone else pay for your repair, why wouldn't we want that? It would make everyone's life easier, right? But, unfortunately, we couldn't in your case. While I'm sure you're not happy with the outcome I really hope you can see that your concerns were not brushed away and we do very much care about you being a happy customer. I would really appreciate if you did pull your review like you said because I don't think it reflects on Downsview accurately. It would mean a lot to me and I would know you apprecaite the efforts I put in to resolve your situation. I did my best. I understand if you don't want to come for service here but if you do, please let me know if I can help in any way. I'm always here.

I really do appreciate your efforts, and as much as I am frustrated by the outcome, and question the existence of computer codes saying that the battery that was strong and working well when I dropped the car off suddenly dies in an unrelated matter to the obviously dead alternator, your efforts and attention to my concerns are appreciated, and I will take down the review. I still have one minor outstanding item, and Richard your sales manager has been great about working with me on my past concerns, so I am willing to put all this behind us. Thanks for your help. .James.
