Good and Bad I recently tried purchasing a car here, and I have mixed feelings about the experience. When my husband and I first arrived, we already knew we would be working with Jesse. I had been emailing him about what I was looking for, and by the time I arrived he already had a couple options in mind for me. He was nice to talk to, quickly found some common ground for conversation, and we felt quite comfortable working with him. He never strayed from what I wanted, and while the first car was way out of my budget (still fun to test drive though), the second was a good fit. The problem was I felt the car was priced more than it should’ve been given the condition. It was listed as a certified vehicle, but the car had some glaring issues like a cracked bumper and about 8 inches of paint completely removed from the driver’s side front bumper. I also thought the price was too high for the mileage and condition. I didn’t fall in love with it right away, so Jesse and the sales manager offered to let me come in the next day and take it for the day. I thought this was really nice of them to offer, and I really loved having the opportunity to do so. I came back with the same concerns as before, but also knowing I wanted that car, even if it wasn’t that specific one. I told him my concerns again (at this point my husband and I had mentioned the bumper numerous times, as well as the price), each time we were told “It’s fair market value.”. I also noticed how the brakes seemed way too soft, I requested they just bleed the lines to firm them up if we purchased the car, and we were told it wouldn’t be a certified car with bad brakes. It seemed like every time we brought something up we were concerned about, we were told we were wrong or to deal with it. We had been looking at other options during this time. All were certified, all were in better shape, had lower miles, all were the same year or newer, and all were cheaper… all 18 of them. When we mentioned this, we were told that they were probably in worse shape, or that the dealers had certified them in “barely passible condition”, saying there was a bit of leeway with the certification process. My husband and I both found some humor and frustration in this, given the condition of the car, it appeared as though Handy took the most liberties in certifying this particular vehicle. If they had listened to our concerns, we probably would’ve bought the car. We didn’t feel like we were asking too much, but after being told we were wrong repeatedly, we moved on. They did eventually fix the bumper, but at that point it was too late. I did up getting that same make, model, and year of car somewhere else. It had 6,000 fewer miles, no damage, the brakes were like new, the interior was perfect, everything felt newer, and I saved $600 while still happily paying full sticker price at the dealership. After seeing the car I did buy, it became so very clear that the car at Handy’s was just overpriced and sub-par in every way. I can’t say this experience will be true for everyone or every vehicle, and I can’t say that I would never go there again. However, I would recommend checking out other options, especially certified, to make sure you are actually getting a quality car. More
