In the time of Covid, many transactions are now taking place on line. Such was it with our purchase of a 2017 Ford Explorer from Whitby-Oshawa Honda (WOH). We live in Chatham, near Windsor, and did ou place on line. Such was it with our purchase of a 2017 Ford Explorer from Whitby-Oshawa Honda (WOH). We live in Chatham, near Windsor, and did our searching online. When we first identified the vehicle we wanted to buy, we contacted WOH. We were transferred to sales and to Nicholas McPherson. He was the sales rep for the transaction. Being as the transaction was being done online, we asked specific questions, such as what was the interior (cloth or leather), was there any rust on the vehicle, were there any dents or other damage to the vehicle, and did it come with an extra key fob (as these are quite expensive to replace). Mr. McPherson assured us there was no damage or rust on the vehicle, and that it came with an extra key fob and that it was in excellent shape. So we went ahead and signed the purchase agreement for the Ford Explorer. WOH needed a few days to prep the vehicle, so after the weekend we drove 3 1/2 hours to pick up the Ford Explorer only to find that Mr. McPherson had misrepresented the conidtion of the vehicle, whether intentionally in order to get the sale or negligently because he hadn't bothered to look at it. As soon as we drove onto the lot, we could see a ding/dent in the crease of the front passenger door. When I walked past the vehicle, I immediately saw rust on the lower front edge of the hood, and that it had been touched up so as to not be so noticeable. As it was immediately apparent, Mr. McPherson should not have missed it either had he looked. When we pointed these out to him, he promised to make good on them and made a show of it and took pictures. So we went ahead and signed the rest of the papers and took possession of the vehicle based on his word. Well, it was lucky that there was still a month left on the manufacturer's warranty because we ended having to handle the issue with the hood with Ford directly. We received no help from Mr. McPherson. So much for his word. However, since we had purchased rust and paint protection on the vehicle (DiamondKote), we now needed to get it re-applied to the new hood. We contacted Mr. McPherson, but after numerous emails to him, there has been no response except one initial email to say he would get back to us. That was now three weeks ago. Nothing. Nada. Customer service here is atrocious. Perhaps it's because they are part of a large auto group or because it's in a major urban centre, or maybe it's the sign of the times, but when one is restricted by the current Covid-19 crisis in how they deal with purchases these days, you would think that more effort would be put into customer relations and helping the customer out, and not just simply taking advantage of the situation. Read the other negative reviews of this dealership and you will see a pattern of behaviour similar to what we encountered. I would be wary of dealing with this business, especially in regards a used vehicle. Mr. McPherson gets one star from us, and that's because he smiled. Like all car salespersons. More

In October of last year my son applied for financing on a vehicle at this dealership. He was refused due to weak credit. A week later, a salesperson contacted him to finance a different vehicle. The deal was presented to him by the salesperson as " a way to build his credit." They dealership took a 17000$ sticker price and after taxes, warranty and fees the price was 25000$. The interest rate was almost 16% and the term was 84 months. My son was 18 at the time and he was unaware of the pitfalls of high interest. The salesperson promised him they would revisit the deal after one year to reduce the interest. We are now at that year. My son is a currently a full time student and reservist with the Canadian Armed Forces. He spoke to the dealership who have now refused him new financing because of his low income and have offered no other remedy to reduce his payments and interest. Over the course of the last year approximately 6000$ in payments have gone to that loan. With the high interest it still sits at over 23000$. The value of this vehicle is now 10000$. It now has a negative equity of 13000$!!! Emails to the dealership and Honda corporate have gone unanswered. The dealership shopped this deal to my son. Made promises they have not kept. And have left him deep in debt with no collateral. Do not buy a used vehicle here. More
