Recently I took my car in because I was selling it and a potential buyer wanted it checked out. It had
116 000kms, always maintained, parked inside. When I picked the car up I was greeted with an estimate for over $3200. It told me the transmission lines were leaking, coolant lines leaking, front end was no good and so on. I was under the car 2 weeks prior and there was no leaks whatsoever, the lines were "sweating". The garage floor is completely clean. A different buyer wanted it checked out so it went further up the auto mile and came out with an estimate for front brakes for a little over $300. Put the pads and rotors on and the car was gone that afternoon. Obviously they seen an older guy walk through the door an see how they can soak them!
The other shop was way cheaper and I haven't heard of anyone getting screwed there.
