When I purchased the vehicle, it had roughly 65,000 km on it – meaning the warranty was up. I was offered extended warranty at an additional cost of approximately $2,000 but decided to decline. Everything appeared to be working fine up until mid-August when Winnipeg experienced some chilly mornings and I turned on my heat only to find that the only thing coming out of the vent was cold air. Considering this was a 2 year old vehicle with less than 100,000 km on it (80,000 km at this point – 15,000 km of which I was responsible for) and I had only owned the vehicle for 6 months, I went to Birchwood Toyota to see if something could be done. At this point, I had an educated guess of the heater blend door being the problem. Prior to visiting Birchwood Toyota, I had called a few other Toyota dealerships to get a quote for the cost of repairing the heater blend door. Fixing the heater blend door appeared to not be an option – I would have to replace my entire heating unit at an outrageous price. Once at Birchwood Toyota, I sat down with Darren Miller (Pre-Owned Sales Manager) and explained my problem. I also told him that the issue was most likely the heater blend door. He then spoke with the Service Manager, Antonella Braz and informed her of my situation. From there, I made a service appointment at Birchwood to diagnose my vehicle having been informed by Antonella that the diagnosis would be free of charge and any repairs required could be done as part of Birchwood’s ‘Goodwill’ program – they would cover 50% of the cost. Following the diagnosis, I received a call from Erin Hampton (Service Advisor) regarding my vehicle. The cost to repair my vehicle came to $3,334.83; $1,667.42 of which I would have to pay. Upon picking up my vehicle I requested a list of the parts required and their part numbers. The cost breakdown is as follows: 82212-06111 Wire Harness $183.80 87050-06571 A/C & Heater Assembly $978.70 87130-06330 Blower Assembly $725.40 Labour $1039.60 Environmental/Supplies $26.75 Taxes $380.58 GRAND TOTAL $3,334.83 The total cost of the parts ‘required’ amounts to $1,887.90, labour totalled $1,039.60, there was an ‘Environmental/Supplies charge of $26.75, taxes in the amount of $380.58 reaching a grand total of $3,334.83. This is A LOT of money to pay into a car not even 3 years old with less than 100,000 km on it. Needless to say, I was not pleased. After further complaint, the cost, for me, of $1,667.42 was dropped to $1,420.00. I was not satisfied with Birchwood’s diagnosis of my vehicle and thus took it to another established mechanic who happens to be a friend of my family’s. At first glance, he quoted a singular part and labour at a cost of $700.00 but suggested delving a little deeper to confirm the problem and the solution. Following a review posted here on Birchwood’s website by my father, I was contacted by Antonella informing me that if I was able to have my vehicle fixed for $700 to bring the receipt in and I would be reimbursed. However, given that this mechanic was performing the work on his own time, a receipt was not possible. About a week later, my mechanic picked up my vehicle on the Saturday morning at 9:15 and returned it at noon and told me my car was fixed and I had heat. No parts were required and the job was done in less than the 8 hours of labour I had been quoted by Birchwood. So what was the problem? The gears of the heater blend door were out of whack. My mechanic re-aligned the gears of the heater blend door and tightened some loose screws. And the cost to fix this? $100.00. A far cry from the $3,334.83 Birchwood quoted to do the repairs and nowhere near the $1,667.42 I was originally told was my portion. I completely understand that with owning a vehicle comes the cost of maintenance and repairs. When buying my 2013 Toyota Camry I fully expected to have to put money into the vehicle down the line for necessary repairs. In the event I had an issue with my car a year down the line, I do not believe I would have even approached Birchwood for assistance. However, prior to owning my Camry, I was the owner of a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero that required less money in repairs in order to deem it ‘safe’ than a car thirteen years its junior. Birchwood claims that terms such as, ‘honest, fair and loyal’ accurately describe their team and business. My experience with Birchwood Toyota can be described as the complete opposite. Rather than taking the time to do what was needed and what was requested by the customer, Birchwood took the path that was easiest for them and would also provide them with the biggest profit. I am left to assume that the staff employed at Birchwood are not out to help the customer; just themselves and the company they serve. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in my experience with Birchwood Toyota. Never again will I purchase a vehicle from Birchwood Toyota or even consider taking my vehicle to them to be serviced for any kind of issue. My parents, sister, and myself have all purchased vehicles from Birchwood Auto Park in the past but will be sure never to purchase vehicles from them again. I will encourage all those who I cross paths with to steer clear of this business and to inform anyone THEY know to do the same. I expected much more from a company the size of Birchwood. Though I am absolutely thrilled with the final resolution of getting my heat back for an extremely reasonable cost, I am still disturbed by the cost I may have paid had I been less aware. There are people out there who may not have access to a wonderful mechanic willing to help out in his spare time such as I did. It is my hope that by publishing my experience I might save someone from being fooled into paying excessive amounts of money for what is actually a small fix. More

I was looking to take a couple of test drives by appointment and really not looking to purchase that day due to unflexible on price last year. After some discussion sales was able to give me my price. I asked the sales person a couple of times is that the final price and is there any extra costs and she said no. After we went to the financing office i gave a $500 deposit and told the final price which was now higher. He explained the Birchwood Advantage $949 fee for roadside assistance for 3 years which i didn't want and had no choice and will never use. It's just a money grab! The financier explains all Birchwood's charge either $750 or $949 depending on new or used. I purchase the car anyways because i need to give my old car to my daughter. I would never purchse from any Birchwood dealer in the future due to being mislead. First time buying from dealer and would say it was a very poor experience and would propably buy private instead in the future. Even today car dealers are still the same they were 20 or 30 years ago, nothing has changed. More

Andrew was very helpful in he amount of driving we do going back and forth to the city every day had decided on a Corolla just not sure which model. Andrew was very helpful in helping us make the decision. We took a few for a test drive and made our decision from there. Super salesman! We have since brought in our vehicle for service and it is so nice to be able to go online and book your appointment. I was also having some trouble with the latch on the remote for the trunk and we were able to come up with a workable solution in the meantime. Very pleased with the level of service at Birchwood Toyota as well. All around great experience! More

I was extremely impress I bought my first car, a next to new 2012 Hyundai Accent, from Andrew Robinson at Birchwood Toyota, and all I can say is wow! I was extremely impressed with the dealer's and the sales managers' honesty and help throughout the process. Andrew (whom I HIGHLY recommend!), fought hard to get me the best deal the entire time, and every step of the way he was willing to provide the necessary assistance and information needed. He even took me out and gave me a crash course on driving a manual, now THAT's what I call great customer service! Everybody at the dealer was excellent and made the car buying experience not only a stress-free one, but even enjoyable! The finance department was hassle-free, and negotiations were polite and a breeze. I'd most certainly buy another vehicle from the fine folks at Birchwood, be it a brand new Toyota or one of their quality second hand models, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody else looking for a dependable vehicle. I'll certainly be heading back the next time me or any family members of mine are looking for a car! And don't forget to ask for Andrew, trust me, you'll be glad that you did! More
This is the kind of dealership that gives a bad name to the whole auto reselers industry. After seeing their ad in local Kijiji, I went there to take a look at the vehicle that was adverised for $25,919 b the whole auto reselers industry. After seeing their ad in local Kijiji, I went there to take a look at the vehicle that was adverised for $25,919 but after a short time with salesman I was told that price of the vehicle is in fact $35,999 and that they made mistake when placing ad on internet. He also said that they received "whole bunch" of phone calls about that car. Funny thing is that they didn't delete ad from Kijiji after receiving those calls and realising that thet made "mistake". No they are using sleazy "bait and switch" tehnique to get you in the door. Stay away for your own good. More

Dealership st called to confirm the appointment and that vehicle was ready. Upon arrival, waited 20 minutes after scheduled appointment to be served. Dealership stated the vehicle for which we had a confirmed appointment was now sold. Suggested an alternate vehicle to look at in the pouring rain. Begrudgingly agreed to bring the vehicle into a dry location so we could look at it. We are previous customers of this dealership. Have purchased eight (8) vehicles and service work over the years. No more. Stay away, stay far away from these incompetent folks. More
