Car-On Auto Sales responded

Dear Roberto, I am very sorry to hear that you have had to spend $2400 for shocks and a transmission cable on your Fiat but please allow me to share a different perspective and make a few corrections on the situation described here. a) With regards to your comment that “….Car-On and Global warranty and we received permission from them to bring the car to the fiat dealership”. Neither Global nor ourselves would ever send our customers to a competitor. Global has a cross-Canada network of authorized repairs shops and more than 25 garages in Ottawa/Gatineau. Car-On has 8 service technicians on staff and we are open from 7AM to midnight so why would we “give you permission” to take it somewhere that is not an authorized Global warranty repair facility.? b) With regards to the transmission cable breaking, you are right it is not a covered component and, as luck would have it, it appears that it failed just outside the manufacturer’s 60,000km warranty. We feel for your disappointment and understand that cars breaking down is never pleasant. We are disappointed that you chose to have the vehicle repaired elsewhere rather than take it back to us as we would have liked to help you if we had had the opportunity. c) With regards to your shocks… something seems odd here. Please allow me to explain why we find this difficult to accept. Every car sold in Ontario goes through an Ontario Ministry of Transport inspection. Those inspections are done by MTO certified technicians and their license is their livelihood. Their license can be revoked at any time by the MTO if they are in breach of their code of conduct. This code of conduct is very clear when it comes to leaking or failed shocks, THEY DO NOT PASS ..period. On November 10th, 2016, 2 days prior to you purchasing the vehicle, your vehicle was inspected by J Murray (ONTARIO MTO License number 301s-XXX-211). Mr. Murray’s comments on the inspection report do not reflect a deficiency with any of the shocks. Had the vehicle needed shocks, at that time Mr. Murray would not have signed the inspection report. Furthermore, had your Fiat needed shocks, they were covered under FULL Fiat warranty as your car was under 60,000km and under 3 years. Licensed technicians are not foolish enough to risk losing their license and their family’s income for something as trivial as a shock absorber, especially when the part is covered under warranty. That being said, we are all humans and sometimes we can make mistakes. Here’s where we are confused… Because you reside in the Province of Quebec, your Fiat needed to meet the SAAQ ( Societe de l’Assurance Automobile du Quebec) safety guidelines as well. We also were required to take your Fiat to a province of Quebec authorized SAAQ Inspection Center. On November 14, 2016 at 12:22 , the day prior to you taking delivery of it, your Fiat went to the inspection center at 280 St-Louis in Gatineau and was inspected by their technician M. Boucher (license number 12477). A second inspection was performed that day, completely independent of the Ontario one and the shocks were all reported as being “without defect”. Where this scenario becomes odd for us is that, we did everything in our power including having 2 INDEPENDENT Licensed technicians inspect your vehicle before delivery. Both SAAQ and MTO LICENSED technicians certified that the shocks were in good order and yet an eager mechanic at FIAT tells you that ALL 4 shocks are “WRECKED” less than 3,000km later and sells you a $2,400 bill… and now, WE are the bad guys !!??! I hope you understand that this makes no sense to us. Again, Roberto, had you got us involved either before the repairs were authorized or even during the repairs, we would have gladly done everything in our power to help you. We have a great relationship with the warranty companies and sometime after inspection of the deficiencies, they will authorize extended coverage (Goodwill adjustments). At the very least we could have given you a second opinion but you chose to spend over $2,000, on 4 shocks that were inspected by 2 independent licensed technicians less than 3,000km before. You asking us to pay for those repairs after all the work is completed is no different than if your called your insurance company “after the fact” and said that your house was damaged by a fire or a flood, you authorized a contractor to perform all the work and now that it’s all repaired, you want them to pay for it. That would never happen, nor are we able to help you in this case either. I empathize with you, however not involving us until after the fact, leaves us helpless to do anything for you. I know this may be a hard pill to swallow but perhaps this can be a learning exercise for anyone reading this review. Should you have any issues with any company, whether it’s a car dealer, a contractor, a travel company or your hair dresser, get them involved early in your situation and give them the opportunity to come through for you before you condemn them without giving them a chance.
