It is always difficult to answer customer ‘observations’ without physically seeing the concern. Had the customer returned to the dealership immediately upon finding discrepancies, we would most certainly have addressed his concerns. The vehicle in question is a 2001 Ram B350. The Multipoint Inspection that the customer is referring to is a template form. The technicians do not have the option of typing in their findings. The response choices are very limited. Our advisor would have explained this had the customer asked. Regardless of when the windshield was replaced, pitting can still be evident. Once again customer should have returned to the dealership. We would like to invite the customer to return so that another Inspection may be carried out, this time by a different technician. At the visit in question, the customer had an Oil Change, Check Engine Light issues, cruise control issues, and muffler concerns all of which were carried out to his satisfaction and customer was supplied with a Savings Card to reduce the costs. The ‘earlier’ visit that the customer is referring to was in June 2013, two years ago. The incident was taken very seriously and the technician in question was written up and let go. The matter was resolved to the customer’s satisfaction as evidenced by his willingness to return to Tower Chrysler. Many improvements and staff changes have taken place over two years so we feel that any reference to work done so long ago is arbitrary.

The scratch was observed and noted by the Service Advisor at the time of the walk round. This is standard procedure to avoid disputes later on. Unfortunately with a night drop off the customer is not present at the time of write up. Nonetheless the observation was made, entered, and filed. Regrettably call backs are not always made within the expected time frame due primarily to the needs of drop-in customers. However, the customer’s calls should have been returned much sooner and this has already been addressed with the relevant personnel. When disputes happen there are always two sides to a story. The alternative to our Assistant Service Manager agreeing with you was … to disagree. The documentation indicated that the scratch was there prior to write up and this is what the Assistant Service Manager referred to. That he disagreed with you does not mean that our service is terrible, neither does it mean that you are at fault. It means that he disagreed as to when it happened due to the recorded documentation. With a customer database of several thousand and over 70 vehicles coming through our drive-thru on a daily basis, there is a reason why we have rigid documentation. Our management and front line staff are trained to cope with ‘disputes’ and to step away if these disputes escalate. Our Assistant Service Manager would most certainly have removed himself from any altercation but who did what and when is, unfortunately, a matter of viewpoint. The Sales, Service and Parts departments are all run under separate management. The Assistant Service Manager has full authority in the Service Department and his decision should not have been overridden by a Sales Manager. That being said the Fixed Ops Manager agreed to honour the decision by Sales and hence the truck fender flare has been repaired. It is not our intention to have our customers be upset by any of our procedures but as a large business we have processes that must be followed. We stand behind our managers’ decisions and when occasion arises we request that our customers respect those decisions.
