1996 Land Rover Defender 110 Â The Land Rover Defender is easily one of the most famous off-road vehicles of all time thanks to its extensive use on farms and estates all over Europe and Africa. Although we got Defenders stateside for a few years in the 1990s, they are now importable and many companies have sprung up to modify and improve them, offering uprated suspension, engines and interior appointments, to make them as enjoyable on-road as they are off road. This 1996 Land Rover Defender is a 110 model- denoting the longer, wagon bodystyle and is finished in the Audi color of Nardo Gray. In addition to numerous exterior modifications, this car benefits from an updated interior, and Chevrolet LS V8 up front, meaning that it is not just a more enjoyable place to spend time, but it will easily keep up with the flow of traffic. Â The Gray paint from Audi is a perfect addition to this truck, especially when paired to the other upgrades carried out on the exterior. Land Rover upfitters Terrafirma supplied the heavy duty front bumper, which is fitted with a 12,000 winch with a remote to help pull you up the steepest of inclines. A Voyager roof rack has been installed with a rear ladder and Hella Rallye 4000LED Lights are installed on the roof. In the rear, a swing away tire mount with matching spare has been fitted and an APR Fold out awning gives you shade to hang out under while off roading in the summer heat. A Mantex snorkel has been fitted up front to increase the wading depth of the truck and 16-inch EvoCorse wheels with 35-inch Nitto Grappler tires increase the ground clearance- along with a 2-inch suspension lift. Â On the inside, Recaro seats have been installed up front that feature black leather outers and houndstooth cloth upholstered centers. The rear bench is by Carrera and has been upholstered to match the front seats. A 3-spoke leather wrapped Momo steering wheel feels great in your hands and a Jensen multimedia touchscreen stereo paired with Morel speakers offers modern capabilities on the music-front. Although the Defender was a rather spartan car from the factory, this one is a really nice place to be inside, and things we have come to expect like power door locks have also been added. Â One aspect of the Defender that was typically a letdown was the engine- although the small torquey diesel powerplants were adequate, performance wasnât really in the conversation. To get around that on this truck, a 5.3-liter Chevrolet LS V8 was installed which provides over 300 horsepower as well as fuel injection, electronic ignition and easy parts availability anywhere in the United States. Hooker headers, a Ron Davis aluminum radiator with electric cooling fans and a FuelTech fuel pump with fuel pressure regulator have also been installed to keep the truck running reliably.
