The dealership is large and has a lot of welcoming and kind staff. After viewing a used car I liked and completed negotiations, I signing on an offer and paid a deposit. The next day, I actually was press kind staff. After viewing a used car I liked and completed negotiations, I signing on an offer and paid a deposit. The next day, I actually was pressured by family to back out of the deal. However, the next day, I called Dimitri (the very kind, welcoming, and understanding manager who I talked the most to during negotiations) to ask re-express my interest in the deal. He was extremely understanding and told me he would take the car off of their website and market as sold no further deposit would be necessary. Because this vehicle had some mechanical issues I was waiting for the mechanic to take a look at the car and fix it. During the next weekend, our sales rep texted us that the car was looked at and fixed. I drove once again to the dealership to check out the car. While one of the problems were fixed, there were still strange sounds with acceleration. The sales rep said that they would call over Dimitri to talk to us so we can all be updated on the situation and be on the same page. Unfortunately, Dimitri was busy, but I also saw him sitting at his desk earlier. I thought it was a little strange that he didn’t want to just spend a minute to talk to me since we were closing a deal together, but I didn’t do anything in that moment. The next business day, I asked for an update. Unfortunately, the sales rep was out of the office, so I heard back from someone else in the office. They told me they would look into the car and let us know when the mechanic gets to take a look at it. After not receiving an update the next morning I sent another text to the same representative covering our sales rep and was told that the vehicle was already sold. I frantically called the dealership asking what they meant. I was told a customer requested to see the vehicle at sister dealership and that they already signed a deal to purchase the car. Since I already had my signed offer and Dimitri’s word, I was frustrated and confused. Turns out Dimitri and the sales rep were both out of the office when the sister dealership came to take the car. Dimitri did not mark the car as sold and did not tell anyone else in the office about the deal as he had promised. While are signed offer may not have been legally binding as the general manager emphasized to us, it is still extremely ethically wrong that we were patiently waiting for the car to be fixed before we found out suddenly, the car was purchased by someone else rather than being marked as sold as we were promised. The general manager chalked it up to miscommunication. This isn’t something that’s OK at any company. Needless to say for a dealership that claims to care about their customers, we were deeply disappointed and can never trust a herb chambers again. More
