I feel that we need to share our recent experience purchasing a used vehicle from Oxmoor Toyota. We purchased a newly traded in 2013 Avalon with very low miles for a 10-year-old vehicle. Everything w purchasing a used vehicle from Oxmoor Toyota. We purchased a newly traded in 2013 Avalon with very low miles for a 10-year-old vehicle. Everything went smoothly with the test ride and the presentation of the vehicle by our salesman was as you would expect … “this is a great car; nothing is wrong with the car, and it’s been through our 120-point inspection process” and we were told that the owner of Oxmoor Toyota will not mess with selling a used vehicle if there is anything at all wrong with it. This vehicle was listed as an internet special and the ad on the internet included a number of pictures (17 total) showing the condition of both the exterior and the interior of the vehicle with the final picture being a snapshot of the instrument cluster showing the Low Tire warning light (TPMS) being illuminated on the dash indicating that there was a problem either with one of the sensors or one of the tires was low on air. So, when we arrived and looked at and drove the vehicle the light was not on. I assumed that this TPMS problem had been fixed and we neglected to ask about it. Hindsight tells me that their service department likely was able to temporarily reset the sensor(s) to the point that it would not come back on for 15 or 20 miles, conveniently long enough for a test ride. Purchasing the car went smoothly and my wife paid cash for the car. On her drive home the TPMS light came on which she informed me of as soon as it was parked in our garage. I immediately researched the issue and determined due to the light flashing and it not being able to reset that the problem was that one or maybe more of the sensor’s batteries had died. We called our salesman and explained the situation and after a couple days he was able to get with the used car manager who said that they would not fix the issue as “it was not a safety concern.” Not a safety concern? A low or flat tire isn’t a safety concern. Really? This was then followed with something to the effect that they would help us out by replacing the faulty sensor at “their cost” to help us out. We then asked what they would charge for the part and the response was that the sensor was $200. I called a local tire shop near our home and asked what they charge for a sensor for the vehicle, and they responded with $50.00 apiece. A search of Rock Auto showed that they had several different brand sensors ranging from $31.00 up to the $50.00 range. Now at the end of the day we did purchase the car “as-is” with no warranty, but I thought it was worth sharing our experience to show how this multimillion-dollar car dealership immediately refused to make this right after they got our cash. We have owned five Avalon’s in the last 18 years, so we are loyal Toyota consumers. Oxmoor Toyota will not be seeing any return business from us. More
