My senior mother bought a car from 902 Auto Sales and waited over two months for her ownership papers My mother, a senior in New Brunswick, bought a 2020 Kia Soul from 902 Auto Sales in Dartmouth, NS, t waited over two months for her ownership papers My mother, a senior in New Brunswick, bought a 2020 Kia Soul from 902 Auto Sales in Dartmouth, NS, through salesperson Andrew Taylor. It was her own purchase, with her own loan, done remotely and financed by CIBC through the dealership. When things started going sideways, I stepped in to help her, because no senior should have to fight through something like this alone. Here's what happened. Getting the car delivered My mother signed the purchase agreement on Aug 7, 2026. After that, the delivery kept getting pushed back, and each time she was told something different: First, the grill needed to be fixed. Then, the grill part was on back order. Then, the part hadn't been picked up by the courier, which delayed it even more. Then, the grill was in, but the car needed to be detailed first. Then, the detailer kept putting it off. Meanwhile, her first loan payment was about to come out, and she still didn't have the car. She didn't know what to say to them anymore, so I stepped in. I told the dealership that if the car wasn't delivered, we'd be contacting the bank about cancelling. Only then did things move. Andrew also promised in writing to reimburse her first loan payment of $138.67 because of the delay. That money was never paid back. What she was told vs. what she got Warranty: My mother was told her extended warranty would be for 3 years. The paperwork says 2 years. Carfax: She asked for a copy of the Carfax report and was told she would get one. She never did. Delivery, and then the paperwork problems Aug 28: The car was finally delivered with a 30-day Nova Scotia temporary permit. My mother was told the ownership papers would be mailed and she'd have them that week. They never came. VIN error: The VIN on her paperwork was wrong by one digit, and the wrong VIN was first given to her insurance company, which then had to be corrected. Sept 28: The temporary permit expired. My mother was left making loan payments on a car she couldn't legally drive. Ignored emails: I emailed Andrew and the dealership's management and owners asking for her ownership. No one replied. The bank The dealership arranged my mother's loan through CIBC. CIBC paid the dealership for the car, but when we contacted them because she had no ownership and couldn't legally drive it, their answer was that they couldn't do anything either. A bank lent my mother almost $20,000 for a car she couldn't register, and then told us it wasn't their problem. What it took to get her papers We had to file complaints with Service Nova Scotia Consumer Protection, the NS Registry of Motor Vehicles, the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (NB), and CIBC. The ownership papers were only shipped after the Deputy Registrar at the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Branch contacted the dealership directly. Even then, instead of taking responsibility, the dealership complained that the Deputy Registrar had been rude to them, and then called my mother. They also said an earlier shipment must have been delivered to the wrong address, but they never once mentioned sending anything when I emailed them asking for her papers. My mother finally got her car registered on October 9, more than two months after she bought it. My mother was in tears over this. No one should have to go to the government to get the papers for a car they paid for. If you're buying from 902 Auto Sales, especially from out of province, make sure you get the ownership in hand at delivery, and get every promise in writing. And don't count on the bank to have your back. More
