A WORD OF WARNING, COULD SAVE YOU $$$
We purchased a used 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe.
FEES: After settling on a price with the sales associate Keden, he produced an agreement form for us both to sign. It included the classic $600 DOCUMENT FEE. I was not impressed, but he assured me there were no more fees after that. Wrong, hours later, the Financial Manager Derek added the $600 ETCHING FEE. I mentioned Keden's signed promise of no more fees, and Derek said "oh, he didn't know", but refused to remove the fee. After much complaint Derek arranged for a free block heater and oil change, but I still feel ripped off for about $300.
EXTENDED WARRANTY: We purchased the Extended Vehicle Service Contract. "Hey, if you don't use it you get your money back" says Derek. Wrong again, check page 3 of the 5 page contract (that Derek did not give us) . You get a maximum of $1500, and not included is the "Guaranteed Price Refund" fee that will cost you an extra $250 (that they don't mention when initially discussing the cost of this warranty). If you just bought this warranty and have second thoughts like we did, you can cancel in the first 30 days (see page 4).
LIFE INSURANCE: We wanted to pay cash for the car, but financing reduced the cost by $1000, so we financed, planning to pay off the car right away. We decided to get life insurance ((Companion Extend) for the few months before paying off the loan. Derek says, "Shouldn't cost more than $16 a month or so". Wrong yet again. Two months and three days coverage? $338.06!!! How can that be? Google "Rule of 78" and you will see some fancy math that the States has tried to outlaw. IF YOU ARE PAYING OFF THE LOAN EARLY, DO NOT GET LIFE INSURANCE.
We had other issues, like bringing the car back for the oil change and having service look at the rusted brakes, only Derek forgot to mention it to the service department.
Most of the 5 star reviews on this website smell fishy to me. I would not go back to Autotown Kia.
